A CriminalMindsEvolution clip picks up after the mid-season finale's explosive cliffhanger and reveals JJ's fate, but leaves Luke's up in the air. 😟

One week away from the show's highly-anticipated return, an exciting clip for Criminal Minds: Evolution's next episode has been released. Now streaming on Paramount+ after ending its run on CBS, the hit series is in the middle of season 16. Most of Criminal Minds' original cast jumped over to the ten-episode revival, including regulars Kirsten Vangsness, A.J. Cook, Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Adam Rodriguez, and Aisha Tyler.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The official Criminal Minds: Evolution Twitter account posted a teaser clip ahead of next week's episode, and it reveals JJ's fate after the end of episode 5. The clip shows JJ slowly coming to and lifting herself from the ground, as seen by the team via her live feed. There's no sign of Luke's whereabouts just yet. The clip ends on a dramatic high note as Rossi, Prentiss, and Tara enter the elevator.

There seems to be more narrative value in Criminal Minds: Evolution keeping Luke around. He has been a staple in the show since the beginning of season 12, and the effort that has been put into the development of his character has made him a popular presence. On top of the in-universe reasons, showrunner Erica Messer has previously said that the last filmed scene of Criminal Minds: Evolution involves both Luke and Rossi, making it likely that he will live.

What To Expect From The Rest Of Criminal Minds: Evolution The BAU had found their best lead ahead of the surprise explosion at the end of the Criminal Minds: Evolution mid-season finale. Now that JJ is confirmed to be alive , it seems likely that discovering Luke's fate will be a pressing plot point. Beyond that resolution, the second half of the season could see the team recovering and preparing for another push for Voit.

The same applies to the Australian marsupial mole.
