Queensland has shifted from response to recovery in the wake of recent flooding and ex-tropical cyclone Alfred, Premier David Crisafulli has said. “The last month and a half this state has been tested in a way it hasn’t been tested for a long, long time,” he said. “I know it seems like there’s long road ahead but we must flick the switch from response to recovery.

Power was restored power to 16,000 homes and businesses on Wednesday alone, putting Energex “nearly 48 hours ahead of our restoration plan”. But more than 30,000 customers were still without power, 17,000 of them on the Gold Coast alone, as of midday on Thursday. The Premier also addressed the ongoing housing crisis, stressing the importance of addressing both housing needs and community spaces.
