Chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid have resigned from Boris Johnson's government
Raucous cheers erupted from Labour MPs in the Strangers' Bar in the Commons as news of the Cabinet's bombshell double resignation broke just after 6pm.
The roar when Sajid Javid's resignation was announced was loud enough. But when Rishi Sunak quit a few minutes later the noise was almost deafening. "The tone you set as a leader, and the values you represent, reflect on your colleagues, your party and ultimately the country. He acknowledged stepping down as chancellor during the cost of living crisis, the effects of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine"is a decision that I have not taken lightly".
