Two crocodile management wildlife officers from north Queensland have been flown in to investigate the sighting on North Stradbroke Island.
The Department of Environment and Science on Thursday said efforts were being made to find the crocodile. “The sighting of a crocodile this far south in Queensland is highly unusual as Minjerribah [North Stradbroke Island] is not considered to be typical crocodile habitat,” they said. “[North Stradbroke Island] is only a few hundred kilometres south from where they naturally spend most of their time, and they’re very capable sea animals that can travel vast distances,” he said.
