The Cougars are one victory away from reaching the UIL state tournament for the first time in 48 years after beating Paetow 72-68 in the Region III-5A semifinals Friday at the Campbell Center.
No. 10 state-ranked Crosby last qualified for state in 1974 as a Class 3A team. That team ultimately came up short in the championship game against Gonzales. Crosby will face defending state champion Beaumont United in the regional final at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Campbell Center. United rolled past Pflugerville Weiss, 70-47, in the other semifinal.
The Cougars have been led this season by TCU signee P.J. Haggerty, who collected 43 points and nine rebounds against Paetow .
