Crown Resorts is another $120 million out of pocket, with authorities hitting the casino giant with a record fine in Victoria and warning the blow will be “much bigger” should it be found unsuitable for a licence in a year’s time.
VGCCC chairwoman Fran Thorn said Crown had let patrons gamble for long periods of time – in some cases longer than 24 hours – without a break, failing to prevent gambling harm in the case of the first fine. Crown acknowledged “the seriousness of these historical failures” and said it was investing heavily in a remediation program.
Crown has been taken over by Blackstone since the royal commission, and Ms Thorn said that the private equity giant had accepted these actions were deserving of the fine.Ms Thorn said there were a number of issues raised in the Finkelstein royal commission that were still under investigation, but was unable to comment further.
