Cruise, the self-driving subsidiary of General Motors Co. GM, is now running its robotaxi service all day long in San Francisco.
Cruise Chief Executive Kyle Vogt made the announcement Tuesday in a Twitter thread, calling the expansion “a pivotal moment for our business.” The 24/7 citywide service will only be available for Cruise employees at first, before opening it up to “power users” and, eventually, the general public. For the time being, power users will be restricted to trips in the city’s northwest neighborhoods during the day, but that will open up to most of the city at night, when there’s less traffic.
