Cruise Lines International Association Australasia is calling for a pathway to revive the industry after the Morrison government extended its ban on international cruise ships until September 17.
Managing Director Joel Katz says he believes “there is a pathway for a responsible resumption of cruising”.
“While those international borders remain closed, let’s offer domestic cruising within our borders — carrying Australians only — and with that, we can help restore some of that economic impact,” Mr Katz told Sky News. He said the ships would be committed to enforcing COVID-19 safety protocols but the risk of transmission would not be any greater than on land.

SES calls for additional assistance to help with Vic floods | Sky News AustraliaVictoria SES Operations Chief Officer Tim Wiebusch says the organisation is frantically working to provide assistance to areas impacted by flooding.\n\nHe said SES and CFA volunteers from “all parts of the state” will work to clear a backlog of 2,500 requests for help.\n\n“We also have Forest Fire Management Victoria that are now bringing in extra chainsaw crews to help clear those roads along the way … and so we are hoping that in the coming days we’ll be able to get some of those remaining roads open,” said Mr Wiebusch.\n\nHe warned of the danger of driving “through flash flood waters” after a man lost his life on Thursday. \n\n“Emergency services were called just before 2pm after a vehicle was seen submerged in floodwaters, rescue crews from police and SES responded, but tragically that person was found to be deceased in their vehicle.\n\n“Again, we can't emphasise enough: stay in touch with your emergency broadcasters, make sure you’re getting the latest information and warnings off the VicEmergency website, … and staying in touch with the VicTraffic app or website for the latest road closures.”\n

Good luck.”\n
