In honor of Filipino American History Month, CBS 8 is highlighting two local Filipino dancers in the San Diego community.
SAN DIEGO — One thing Sean Memije and Love Redfearn share in common is their love for dance.Redfearn's passion for dance started in high school.
"As soon as I go into the room and the music hits and just everyone's smiling face and their infectious energy is an invigorating feeling and that’s what fuels my passion," said Redfearn. "It makes me feel alive to be honest. When I'm teaching or listening to music and just moving and having the connection to the music; I feel like after all the years of trying to find myself, I feel that’s defined who I was; is dance," said Memije. "I love being Filipino.
Memije's parents immigrated here from the Philippines. They are proud to represent their Filipino heritage. "I think its super important. It represents how talented the Filipino culture is and what we can offer to the world of art," said Memije. And they agree, when you’re on the dance floor, it doesn’t matter what your background is to be able express yourself.
