Cummins would have played Test under SA’s Tuesday rule change | danbrettig

Australia’s captain Pat Cummins would have been able to play the Adelaide Ashes Test match and the BBC and ABC broadcast teams not banned from covering the final two days under fresh COVID-19 regulations introduced by the South Australian government on Tuesday.

Under these terms, the asymptomatic Sydney-based grade cricketer who briefly chatted with Cummins as he dined with Harry Conway at The Little Hunter Steakhouse on Test match eve would not have required a test on arrival in Adelaide, and thus would not have returned a positive result that night. Marshall had previously suggested that Cummins was pulled out of the game unilaterally by Cricket Australia rather than on the advice of state health authorities.

Similarly, the asymptomatic BBC broadcaster who returned a positive “day six” test after his arrival into SA would have been fine to continue his work on the Test match. Instead, that broadcaster was required to quarantine in Adelaide for 14 days to recover, while part of the BBC team must spend seven days isolating as close contacts.
