NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said cutting the fuel excise is 'not the lever' to ease pain at the bowser. 9News
In tomorrow's Federal Budget it is expected the Morrison Government will propose a temporary reduction in the fuel excise of between 10 and 20 cents.
NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said while the association was pleased to hear of strong investment in motoring infrastructure, cutting the fuel excise is "not the lever" to ease pain at the bowser. "However, the excise was never intended to be cut in accordance with fluctuations and volatile movements in oil."NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said changing the fuel excise is not the "lever" the association would use to bring down petrol prices.
"In addition to that, if the government is looking to cut the excise we have two concerns: the first is that sudden jumps in oil prices will eat up whatever cuts that we see and therefore the public may not feel like they are getting the relief that they need," he said.
