A tragic accident on Sydney's Princes Hwy claimed the life of a female cyclist in her 70s. The incident involved a car and occurred near the Waterfall train station. Investigations are ongoing.
A female cyclist in her seventies was tragically killed after being struck by a car on the Princes Hwy at Waterfall in Sydney 's south on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 8am, prompting the closure of southbound lanes of the highway to allow emergency services to reach the scene just past the train station. NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived to provide medical assistance to the cyclist, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The victim's identity is yet to be formally released. Investigations into the cause of the accident are currently underway, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The 23-year-old female driver of the car involved has been transported to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing. The severity of the collision prompted a significant emergency response, with both ambulance crews and a helicopter dispatched to the site. Live Traffic NSW reported that the ongoing police investigations are anticipated to take some time, causing disruptions to traffic flow.During the initial hours following the crash, light vehicles were diverted onto McKell Ave, while heavier vehicles were temporarily halted. Diversions have since been lifted, but authorities are advising motorists to anticipate delays and allow for additional travel time as traffic returns to normal.
