A woman in her 60s was hit and killed while riding outside Melbourne. A 35-year-old man, alleged to have fled the scene, has been arrested.

The 60-year-old Mentone woman was struck by a car on Beach Road in the bayside suburb of Beaumaris 5.25pm on Sydney.

The driver of the car allegedly failed to stop and the cyclist died at the scene, according to police. Major Collision Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Mark Amos said the car was dumped and later found at Waller Court, Cheltenham where two women, believed to be passengers in the car, were interviewed by police.Sergeant Amos described the incident as “callous”.Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
