A corner has said action needs to be taken to ensure cyclists are protected from potholes
A coroner has warned county council bosses that more people could die unless action is taken to ensure cyclists are protected from potholes.
Just 11 days later, Island Lane was inspected as part of a routine assessment by highways boss Robert Treen. Not only did Mr Treen say he didn't see the defect but he also suggested it couldn't have been there when he visited the road. "I can only say that that puzzles me," he said. "I am not aware of any mechanism that would likely have caused that crack to be there on September 9, then to not be there on September 26 but then return on January 2."
She added: "The council's position defies all reasonable logic... and Mr Colledge's family are well within their rights to be outraged... the council's position, maintained to the bitter end, was met by audible laughter in this court." The coroner has now sent a Prevention of Future Deaths report to Lancashire County Council. The report places a legal obligation on the council to take action to ensure that there is no continuing risk that the circumstances surrounding Harry's death can be repeated.
