Port Hedland ‘on edge’ as mayor Peter Carter warns loose objects have the potential to become ‘missiles in the air’
Tropical Cyclone Ilsa is expected to reach a highest-severity category 5 system before crossing the Western Australian coast, packing winds up to 285km/h.
It is now likely to become the highest category of storm before crossing the coast late on Thursday or early Friday. The Bureau of Meteorology upgraded the cyclone to a category 4 system on Thursday morning.“That is going to cause a heap of damage,” he told reporters. The Port Hedland mayor, Peter Carter, said an eerie quiet had descended over the town of 16,000 as residents prepared for impact.
