Cypress Falls ended College Park's season in the area playoffs for the second straight...

TOMBALL — Prior to Friday’s area playoff game against Cypress Falls, College Park boys basketball coach Clifton McNeely said the Eagles’ defense was the best he had seen in his 18 years of coaching. The Eagles clamped down early and often and the Cavaliers had no answers. Cypress Falls rolled to a 58-38 win at Tomball Memorial High School to advance to the Region II-6A quarterfinals for the second straight season.

Cypress Falls held College Park to three field goals and eight points in the first half. The Eagles jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never relented. “They’re not a great offensive team but defensively they’re very good,” McNeely said. “They’re one of the best in the state. They’re all physical. That’s the big thing, and this time of year that’s the key.”The Eagles had three more turnovers than the Cavs, but it didn’t matter. College Park did not get quality looks at the rim, and whenever it found any semblance of opening from the perimeter, shots did not fall.“I do feel, with this length, we can close gaps,” Flores said.
