Arizona selected the shortstop Lawlar, 21, with the No. 6 pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Lawlar as the No. 6 prospect in baseball. He entered the season as the No. 9 prospect in the sport, perLawlar is slashing .278/.378/.496 with 20 home runs and 36 steals in the minors this season, including batting .358 with five homers over 16 Triple-A games.“Lawlar, my favorite prospect in the 2021 draft, is a complete player,” Bowden said. “At the plate, he has special barrel awareness and loud sweet-spot contact. At shortstop, he has plus range to both sides and a strong arm.

“He gets into a good position to start his swing and has excellent hand acceleration, with good loft for line-drive power. He’s a true shortstop with the hands and arm to stay there, needing work on his footwork and making routine plays consistently, while his instincts and game clock are above-average and let him succeed even when he isn’t in the right position to start a play.
