A man has been accused of killing his wife after launching a sickening knife attack in their German home while their two children were present.
Rudolf Herman, 42, is suspected of using a kitchen knife to stab Brigitte Herman, 38, in the chest during a heated argument in their home in the province of Hesse.
It is understood the couple, both originally from Croatia, started arguing early on Tuesday morning after Ms Herman told him she wanted a divorce. About 5am neighbours heard screams coming from the house, with local media reporting some residents heard a girl scream, “Mum you are bleeding”.Mr Herman allegedly used a 20cm kitchen knife to stab his wife twice before fleeing the scene.“It is noteworthy that the blows were with such force that the blade of the kitchen knife broke off. This fact speaks for the considerable violence that was used in the attack,” Prosecutor Dominik Mies told local media.
Mr Herman later turned himself into a local police station where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.A friend of Ms Herman’s told local media that the mum had suffered abuse at the hands of her husband from the very start of their relationship.A police spokesperson told local media that the couple’s children were receiving psychological care.
“It’s not possible to know what they saw of what went on, but they certainly experienced some of the tragedy which has left its traces on them,” the spokesperson said.
