Jersey-born Randy Wussler has raised nearly $20,000 for Type 1-diabetes research in honor of his daughter.
Randy Wussler, who is riding across the U.S., marks the moment he reached the 1,000-mile mark, near Amarillo, Texas.Wussler, 58, was a senior vice president in a corporate job before his long-planned retirement in March.
He traces his interest in cycling to his childhood job, at age 12, delivering The Star-Ledger newspaper. “It was intimidating when he mentioned it, but we managed to get everything we needed into the van,” she said of her husband’s idea to ride across the country. He’s been switching between two bikes, a 2015 Surly Disc Trucker and a 2019 Specialized Roubaix Expert.“I’m basically seeing my entire family on this trip,” she said.Photo courtesy of Randy Wusslerfor the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, their goal includes promoting awareness about a chronic condition that sometimes is misunderstood.
