A dad stabbed a man 'again and again' in front of his daughter and another young relative before leaving him to die in a hallway

A dad stabbed a man "again and again" in front of his daughter and another young relative before leaving him to die in a hallway , a court has heard.

Opening the case for the prosecution this morning, Iain Simkin, KC, told the six men and six woman of the jury that Mr Moore spotted the two girls while walking along on Saville Avenue at roughly 10.30pm. The girls initially told an older man nearby about the encounter, at which point Ireland coincidentally appeared after visiting a local shop. According to his account given in police interviews, the defendant found the girls "screaming and fear", who told him that a man with hoodie and backpack had “tried taking us”.

The jury also heard that there was some audio recorded of the fatal attack, however it was "not very clear". Mr Simkin said on the prosecution’s interpretation of the recording, it sounds as if Ireland’s daughter shouts “get off my dad you d***head”, before she is later heard saying “get off dad”, with a male voice adding, “f***”.

Following the attack, Mr Moore was found gravely injured in the hallway by his partner Ms Willows. She managed to help him into the living room of their flat before phoning 999 from his mobile. During the call, which Mr Simkin described as 'distressing', Ms Willows told the operator that her partner had been stabbed in the throat.

Despite this, Ireland did not call an ambulance or seek any help for Mr Moore as he fled the scene. Mr Simkin said Ireland “laid low” for two days before handing himself in to police on Christmas Eve. In an interview he claimed that he went round to Mr Moore’s home to ask “what he had said to my kid”, but was punched in the face and ran away as Mr Moore shouted threats after him.
