A new mental health charity is helping Australian dads overcome loneliness by connecting men through online gaming.
Aged 36, he hadn't made friends outside of work for 15 years, and working remotely, his opportunities to create new friendships became even more limited."The only person I've had frequent contact and constant contact with is my wife or her family and that's it," Mr Sheridan says.He turned to the internet and found DadLAN, a new mental health charity with a mission to reduce isolation and increase support for dads across Australia.
His wife had success fostering new friendships through her mother's group, but he noticed there was no similar space for dads. "Having an objective activity to connect over and maybe talk about something that you're going through … that works really well." Mr Draycott says his interest was piqued because the group had the common experience of fatherhood and he has now been part of the community for nine months.
Aaron Powell reached out to the Dadvice chat when he was trying to teach his child how to touch type.
