“We’re going to enjoy this monumental win tonight,” Strong said after winning the nomination. “The people have spoken overwhelmingly. We’re just elated. It’s about all of us. It’s about the 5th Congressional District. … For the last 15 months, we’ve gone from one end of this district to the other, practically from Mississippi to Georgia. I think our message has resonated with the people.
Both Strong and Wardynski claimed to be pro-Trump conservatives who supported the America First agenda. But the campaign turned negative after they emerged as the top two contenders for the Republican nomination during the May 24 primary.
