Carr, the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s CEO since 2019, is credited with leading a $40 million capital improvement campaign that added state-of-the-art event space, new gardens and facilities.“We doubled both the garden’s annual visits and membership, expanded programs, raised funds to reimagine amenities and … expanded access for the entire San Antonio community,” Carr wrote in an email.

Before working in San Antonio, she was vice president for marketing at the Atlanta Botanical Garden for nearly 17 years. The Dallas arboretum’s day-to-day operations have been overseen by chief operating officer Shawn Jackson since March. Under Brinegar’s 27-year tenure, the arboretum’s membership grew from 2,000 to over 46,000 with 500 of those supporters donating $3,500 to $50,000 annually.Brinegar helped to fix the arboretum’s finances by diversifying its income streams. Earlier, 70% of the Arboretum’s $3 million operating budget went to the springtime Dallas Blooms festival.
