Dallas judge under fire from 15 defense lawyers must recuse herself | Opinion
Judge Amber Givens should grant lawyers’ request while the Texas Rangers look into possible misconduct
At issue are the allegations of a group of Dallas criminal defense lawyers who are urging the felony court jurist to recuse herself from more than 100 of their cases, saying she cannot be impartial. We disagree with her, and urge Givens not only to recuse herself, but also to show some humility in the midst of an investigation into her possible misconduct by the Texas Rangers and her abysmally low rating by the Dallas Bar Association.
Givens has denied all wrongdoing and has accused the lawyers of defamation. That means that some of the defense lawyers now have their own defense lawyers, who are involved in the recusal hearings. Wheless rightly gave up trying to coordinate everyone’s schedules, resulting in his decision to hold one mass hearing.
