Dallas won’t see dramatic change in homelessness, despite $73M: city official

4,410, a drop of 160 individuals. And this year’s count of 4,244 shows a decrease of 106 individuals, a dip of about 4% of Dallas’ homeless population.

“It’s not that if they reach functional zero, that no one is ever going to experience homelessness in that community,” Barnes-Carrejo said. “We know that’s not possible, but we do know that communities can have well functioning systems.” Dallas is extremely close to reaching that functional zero for homeless veterans, meaning the city has “effectively ended veteran homelessness,” Crossley said.

Over the last few years, Dallas and Collin counties’ PIT counts have shown only slight improvements in the city’s homelessness solutions efforts. In the same time period, the city claims to have housed over 2,500 people through the R.E.A.L time initiative alone.
