Chalmers joins the Google-owned company from U.K. arm of Warner, where he has worked for 20 years, rising to the post of president of ADA, East West and Rhino Records. News that he was swapping the major label for YouTube was first reported by Music Week last June, although has only now been officially confirmed by the streaming giant.

"YouTube is the most powerful promotion platform on the planet and has become an integral part of the artist's journey and narrative within the music industry," said Chalmers, who will be based in London, reporting to head of YouTube in EMEA,In a statement announcing his appointment, Chalmers said he was looking forward "to working closely with labels, publishers and rightsholders as well as helping artists and songwriters connect with fans, find success and tap into the...

During his two decades with Warner Music U.K., Chalmers helped revive the East West label imprint and oversaw successful catalog campaigns for The Smiths, Bette Midler, Fleetwood Mac, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gees and Led Zeppelin. Since 2011, he has led ADA's British operations and is credited with deepening the company's relationships with the independent community, signing deals with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr, as well as helping land the first U.K. grime number one album with Stormzy's, which was distributed by ADA. Prior to joining Warner Music in 2000, Chalmers worked at Interscope-Geffen A&M.
