Dan Hoyle, known for exploring hot-button issues in his solo shows, takes on White males in the new ‘Talk to Your People.’
has explored far-ranging topics in his years as a playwright, including refugees, small-town America and Nigerian oil politics.
The idea for the show came from a conversation Hoyle had with a friend involved with We See You W.A.T. , a collective dedicated to exposing racism and injustice against BIPOC workers in the theater industry. The group dropped a bomb in the form of adeclaring, in part, that “you are all a part of this house of cards built on white fragility and supremacy. And this is a house that will not stand.”
“He has a rare ability to embed or to be accepted everywhere and hear peoples’ stories at an incredibly deep level. He carries those stories back in his body, his voice and his soul and puts them on stage,” says Charlie Varon, a longtime collaborator of Hoyle’s and director of “Talk to Your People.”“Hanging out” was a germy concept in the early days of the pandemic.
