An activist has risked a sharp drop from Melbourne’s Art Centre as he unfurled a huge banner in protest of government inaction during Friday morning’s busy commute.

The Extinction Rebellion representative reportedly began to climb the 160m tall triangular structure at about 5 am to achieve an optimal position for his sign.

Many of the activists pitched tents on the lawns outside, chanted through megaphones and held up colourful posters with the words “climate chaos=war + famine” and “climate extinction”. Some of the activists wore all red, while others pitched tents on the laws. Picture : NCA NewsWire / Nicki Connolly
