The heat index on Tuesday and Wednesday could climb above 100 in parts of the state.

will not relent with a heat index climbing above 100 in much of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday at minimum, forecasters say.

The heat advisory in effect for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, eastern Passaic and Union counties runs until 8 p.m. Wednesday with high humidity making afternoon highs in the low 90s feel like the mid to upper 90s, the weather service said. Temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal for early September are due to “large high pressure area over the Southeast ... pumping heat and humidity into the Northeast,”Forecasters remind people to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activities.

Scorching temps continue on Wednesday and again on Thursday, when there are chances of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
