Victoria has seen its darkest day since the COVID-19 pandemic began after recording 17 deaths in the state in the last 24 hours.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the victims included “two men in their 50s, four in their 70s, and four women and two men in their 80s, and two men and three women in their 90s". “To each of those families we send our sincere condolences, our sympathies, our best wishes… this will be an incredibly difficult time for them and I want them to know they are in our thoughts and prayers as we do everything we can to deal with this second wave and get beyond it," Mr Andrews said.
” Mr Andrews also announced there were an additional 394 new virus cases in the state, which takes the total number of cases to 14,659, with 7854 of those still active. There are also 634 Victorian in hospital, with 43 of those in intensive care and 26 of those cases requiring a ventilator. Mr Andrews revealed there have been 174 new COVID-19 cases with an unknown source in the state, bringing the total number of mystery infections to 2785.
