Three youths who stole a Darwin couple's car at knifepoint on Friday night were later carjacked by a separate pair of teens within the hour, Northern Territory Police allege.
A Darwin couple have been left "extremely traumatised" after their vehicle was allegedly carjacked twice in one night.The incidents followed a spate of youth crime across the Northern Territory capital last week.
NT Police watch commander Toby Wilson said the couple had returned home to their apartment in Wanguri at about 10:15pm when three offenders armed with knives — including a boy younger than 12 — surrounded their vehicle in the car park. As violent youth offences continue to rise in the NT, legal experts have criticised the Lawler government for holding another review into the issue.Soon after, the three offenders allegedly drove the couple's car into a local community where the stolen vehicle was then carjacked by a pair of teenagers.
On Monday morning, a group of youths — including a boy aged seven years old — allegedly held an 81-year-old woman at knifepoint before stealing her handbag near Darwin's main shopping centre in Casuarina.Later that day, police received reports of aggravated robberies at two service stations and a licensed venue.
