Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service CEO Suzanne Andrews says the “data talks for itself” as her local town of Yarrabah had a drop in its suicide rate after establishing a local Voice to Parliament. “Gurriny is 30 years old, 25 years of our 30 years our local leaders and our elders have been advocating for a community-controlled health service in Yarrabah,” she told Sky News Australia. “That’s how long it’s taken, and it’s a voice from Yarrabah that’s been asking – why does it have to take that long? “2014, the state government clicked the button, the green light on community control, and we transitioned from a government health service to a community-controlled health service, and look, we haven’t looked back and the data talks for itself.”
