Police in Dauphin County held a retirement ceremony for one of their loyal four-legged officers on Wednesday evening.
About 100 police officers, community members, local government officials and first responders attended the ceremony at the Dauphin County Heroes Grove Amphitheater in Brightbill Park. A total of 110 apprehensions were credited to Rex, 99 of which did not involve biting. One of the 11 cases that did end with a bite was the police pursuit of the Ulta theft suspects, officials said. Rex was deployed into the suspect’s car through the front passenger-side window, after the occupants refused to exit, police said.by a man who said the officers decision to send Rex after him was “excessive force.
