The short answer is they managed while still leaving plenty of time for the sort of crowd-pleasing shenanigans fans have come to expect at a Foo Fighters concert.
Drummer Taylor Hawkins set his sticks aside to come out from behind the kit and take a spin as front man on a really fun, really long version of the Queen song"Somebody to Love." Or in Grohl's case on this particular evening in Tempe? His shirt was the cover of X's iconic"Los Angeles" album. It was the perfect way to start the show, Grohl singing"I'm a new day rising/ I'm a brand new sky/ To hang the stars upon tonight."
