Opposition leader says ‘there’ll be less kids in watch houses’ under an LNP government but won’t commit to ending the practice

“And I’m certain that kids will be staying there for a shorter period of time. In a perfect world, children shouldn’t be in watch houses full stop.”, and a crackdown on other youth crimes, the state’s jails and youth detention centres are now well over capacity. The Miles government has turned to adult police watch houses to hold children. Most held there are on remand as opposed to convicted and sentenced for a crime.
