Stranger Things star David Harbour teases what will become of Hopper in the end of season 4. The flagship Netflix series, which premiered on the streaming service in 2016, follows the adventures of the citizens of the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, as they fight back against strange supernatural creatures that emerge from an alternate dimension known as the Upside Down. Although season 3 premiered in 2019, Stranger Things was delayed by pandemic shutdowns.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY One of the main characters of the series is Harbour's Sheriff Jim Hopper, who has had a major arc throughout the run of the show. After opening Stranger Things as an indolent small-town policeman, he slowly became a loving father figure to Millie Bobby Brown's telekinetic orphan Eleven and became a hardened fighter willing to put his life on the line to protect the people he loves.

What you’re gonna see is us sprinting as hard as we can — not only are you gonna see the Duffers sprinting there cinematically in this epic, extraordinary way, but you’re gonna see all the characters [doing] more and you’re gonna have these epic action sequences. In terms of Hopper’s arc, you’re gonna see him be more vulnerable and more powerful than you’ve ever seen, and I’m just so excited for you. I can’t talk about it anymore. I need you guys to watch.
Hopper has certainly been put through the wringer in Stranger Things season 4. Although part 1 took its time allowing him to interact with anyone from Hawkins, he will surely be crossing paths with more familiar characters in the new episodes. These moments will likely account for his vulnerability, particularly once he finally reunites with Eleven.
Stranger Things probably won't repeat its season 3 finale by having Hopper sacrifice himself to save the kids. However, with this intense season 4 arc, it may be setting up a similar fate for him in season 5, which will be the final season of Stranger Things as a whole. In the meantime, the conclusion of his season 4 arc is sure to be emotionally powerful nevertheless, and it will be interesting to see what the final episodes have in store for everyone involved.
