The Queen has moved to limit the fallout from the bombshell resignations of Prince Harry and Meghan by ordering senior members of the royal family to urgently find "workable solutions" to the crisis.
Blindsided by the shock announcement that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would step back from royal duties, seek financial independence and move to North America, Buckingham Palace on Thursday sought to regain control of the saga by briefing the media that a plan had been hatched to heal the damaging public rift.
The Queen spoke with Prince Charles and Prince William on Thursday as part of the ongoing bid by the palace to resolve the royal rift. The directive was issued 24 hours after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued an extraordinary statement that revealed the pair had decided to separate from the broader institution following months of "reflection and internal discussion".
Declaring their intention to spend more time on their "next chapter" in North America with son Archie, the couple said they would seek financial independence by sourcing their own private income, which senior members of the royal family are prohibited from receiving.
