It will be a dream come true when the Isle of Lewis native welcomes his beloved Hoops to DC this weekend
Ally Mackay will get a kick out of watching DC United going up against his boyhood heroes Celtic this weekend, writes Michael Gannon in the USA.
Mackay said: “I don’t remember why, but I fell out with my dad . It wasn’t anything big, it must have been about football. He’s a massive Rangers fan. I was like, you know what? I’m going to support Celtic. “I didn’t really get the chance to get down much because I was always playing football on the weekends. We certainly weren’t poor or anything like that but we didn’t really have the means.
Mackay has never been afraid to swim against the tide. He made his name as an global agent and is now running an entire club – and at 37-years-old is the youngsters general manager in the MLS. He said: “It’s kind of my personality. You know, I was very much like a dreamer. “My wife’s American. My kids are American. So the goal was to become a GM in MLS. So it’s been really fulfilling that way.”
