just released from the Arizona Auditor General is uncovering a disturbing lack of accountability from the Department of Child Services as it monitors the state’s nearly 2,700 group and foster care facilities.The agency did not perform ongoing monitoring of 35 group homes during a 16-month period.

The report also revealed the state never investigated some allegations and that children were never interviewed in some investigations. In 2022, a teen was shot and killed by another teen at a Phoenix group home, where guns and drugs were found days before the shooting.
