A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage and possession with intent to supply Class A

A suspected drug dealer has been arrested after escaping from police and then later crashing his car leaving it 'undriveable'.

A short time later the same vehicle was involved in a collision with a blue VW Amorak at the junction of Church Road and Canberra Road. Police said the Fiesta 'came off second best' and it was left 'undriveable'.The driver then ran off down Langdale Road and then onto Borrowdale Road before being detained by a police office and a 'brave member of the public'. They also helped the force 'locate some items which had been discarded during the incident'.

In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson for South Ribble Police said: "Yesterday on Church Road in Leyland at approximately 10.25am officers attempted to engage with the driver of a purple Ford Fiesta whilst it was stationary at the traffic lights heading towards the motorway. Upon realising that it was the police the 23-year-old male made off.
