Death toll climbs as hundreds of wildfires burn in Chile

Chile extends emergency declaration to yet another region as firefighters struggle to control over 250 raging wildfires, claiming at least 22 lives amid a scorching heat wave that has broken records

Interior Minister Carolina Toha said on Saturday that of 251 active fires, 76 ignited within the past day. The move allows Boric to mobilise the military to help battle the fires as the death toll continued to rise. Temperatures soared to 40 degrees Celsius, hindering efforts to contain the fires, many of which raged out of control.
