A former truckie has told a parliamentary inquiry he turned to methamphetamine to meet the demands of the business, and was once up for 13 days straight.

“Once I was awake for 13 days straight. On the last run, I convinced my brother-in-law to come with me because I knew I wouldn’t make it home.” This is partly due to complaints about the size and complexity of the legislation, which also includes creating minimum pay and conditions for gig workers, strengthening rights for casuals and forcing companies to pay labour-hire workers the same rate as fulltime employers’ enterprise deals.
