About 800 aircraft and vessels from the Australian, US and Canadian Airforce and Navies have been deployed to scour waters off Hamilton Island in the search for four missing defence personnel.
The MRH90 Taipan was involved in a two-helicopter training mission as part of Exercise Talisman SabreA search and rescue immediately commenced as the other helicopter was present, however, the four missing aircrew are yet to be located.
HMAS Adelaide is set to arrive late Saturday evening to assist with the rescue mission followed by HMAS Huon early Sunday morning. "We have a barge up working up there, we also have police working around those islands, patrolling beaches. Talisman Sabre Exercise Director Brigadier Damian Hill said the missing pilots were part of the 6th Aviation regiment located at the Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney.
At a press conference on Saturday morning Defence Minister Richard Marles confirmed the families of the aircrew have been notified of the incident.
