Deckard is not Blade Runner's hero, and the anime proves it.
Despite the fact that Deckard was presented as the main protagonist of the first Blade Runner movie, he was never actually the hero of that story, and one scene from the sequel series proves it.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT 1982’s Blade Runner follows Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner with the LAPD, who has been hired with the highly classified mission of finding and ‘retiring’ a small group of Replicants. By doing so, he’ll be saving the life of the most powerful man in the world at that time, Tyrell. Tyrell was the head of the Tyrell Corporation and the man responsible for the creation of Replicants.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus Exposes the True Cruelty of Blade Runners In Blade Runner: Black Lotus episode 5 , a lone Replicant gets on a bus leaving LA in the dead of night, fear-induced paranoia surging throughout his artificial body. Just as the bus was leaving the stop, a man steps in front of it, and gets on himself. After a few moments, this man makes a comment that exposes his fellow traveler as a Replicant, and himself as a Blade Runner.
This scene may have had some level of suspense, but it was mostly just sad. The Replicant had escaped from an underground Replicant-fighting ring that just got busted a few episodes prior. All he wanted to do was leave the city that made him kill his own kind for entertainment, and live the rest of his life in peace. But, that didn’t happen, all thanks to the ‘heroic’ Blade Runner.
The movie Blade Runner had ‘leading man’ Harrison Ford play the rugged cop, Deckard, in a futuristic society where ‘androids’ were on the loose, and he needed to shoot first and ask questions never. That’s how many fans saw the movie, another action/sci-fi romp of the ‘80s where the handsome hero wins and the evil ‘robots’ lose. But, Blade Runner was never that simple, and all Black Lotus did was simply shine a light on that fact.
