Breaking: Suspended Liberal MP Moira Deeming will face a new expulsion motion next week.
It comes as federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton refused to rule out federal intervention in the Victorian Liberal Party crisis brought on by Deeming’sover her nine-month suspension from the parliamentary party.
“I wouldn’t rule out federal intervention and I make it very clear to the Victorian division that I want this mess sorted out as quickly as possible,” Dutton told ABC’s“My interest is in getting the matters that are in the press at the moment resolved because it doesn’t help our brand. It doesn’t reflect on broader party movements.”
“Whilst we’re a distraction away from [Premier] Daniel Andrews, he gets away with more stuff day by day.”“If they don’t, there are processes that the party always has at its disposal,” he said on ABC TV, hinting at the push from some Victorian Liberals to draft a fresh expulsion motion against Deeming.Pesutto described Deeming’s threat to sue him as “a very serious step”, but would not confirm if he would back a new expulsion motion. He said he would consult and be guided by the party room.
“Given that the leadership did not make the statement of exoneration, or confirm my return, and that no mediation or even any minutes exist to settle this dispute, I have advised my lawyers to prepare a legal challenge over my suspension because I believe that we need to come together as colleagues and have a do-over meeting.”that colleagues who had been reluctant to expel Deeming in March were now changing their positions.
