Deer Park Sophomore Tigers attempt to bring down Friendswood's top running threat during third-quarter action Saturday afternoon at Aveva Stadium.HOUSTON - Parker Wilson has likely had quite a few important tackles this season for the Deer Park Sophomore Tigers, but none of his previous defensive work has clinched a South Texas Youth Football Association Super Bowl title like it did Saturday.
Fortunately for the chilly Tigers fans who were braving the elements, the Colts never got to ask themselves that question. The Colts hurt their own chances when they were whistled for a five-yard penalty, fumbled the ball and recovered, had a run of two yards and then Wilson, on third down, caused a three-yard loss, setting up his spectacular season-ending finish with 10 seconds remaining.
The referees concluded it was the Tigers ball and two plays later, Plummer was scoring the winning points. His score however was harder than that. The Tigers were whistled for back-to-back five-yard infractions, pinning the team back at the 16. But the youngster ate all the distance up with a run to the outside, sneaking just inside the left pylon.
It was no surprise that fumbles played a factor in this Super Bowl and all the other STYFA Super Bowls. Any exposed skin on this day, especially the extremities, led to some very cold hands that couldn't feel the football.
