Defence Minister Richard Marles says Australia needs a defence force with the capability to engage in “impactful projection” through proportionate responses to any “adversary” seeking harm.

“What it really does is re-task the ADF’s mission for the first time in 35 years … we are now within the ten-year warning time in terms of any adversary seeking to do us harm,” Mr Marles told Sky News Australia. “What we need is a defence force that has the capability to engage in impactful projection through the full spectrum of proportionate response.”
