Fans cheered the former Spurs star despite negative remarks he made following his trade to the Hawks.
Dejounte Murray's tumultuous departure from the Spurs didn't keep him from a warm welcome Sunday in his return to AT&T Center.Cold, damp, gray weather greeted Dejounte Murray when he stepped off the Atlanta Hawks team plane Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.
“I don’t know how other people feel,” Murray said Saturday when asked what he was expecting from the fans. “You got a lot of people that are mad, a lot of people that are happy. The real people that are real humans understand that it’s appropriate for us to say how we feel and we shouldn’t get judged because we have more money than you or more fame than you.
The comments that garnered the most attention came when he was a guest on a podcast hosted by another former Spur, Stephen Jackson, in which Murray accused the Spurs of “trying to beak” him and of “playing mind games” with him. He also criticized future Hall of Famer Tony Parker for failing to mentor him properly.
Speaking at a ballroom at a downtown hotel at an informal media gathering Saturday, Murray repeatedly professed his love for the Spurs. “Just knowing what I have been through, he tried to keep me away from Seattle as much as ,” Murray said."Not just for any negative things but to keep me focused. We had heart to hearts, and there were times I lost people over and over and he was somebody I could go cry to because I had no family living here in San Antonio.
