Dekaney (7-4) is headed back to the area playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

Dekaney Jonah Wilson is tackled by Oak Ridge LB Justin Williams during first half action of a high school football, Region II-6A Division II bi-district game. Dekaney vs. Oak Ridge at Planet Ford Stadium in Spring, TX, Saturday, November12, 2022.SPRING — Oak Ridge wasn’t supposed to be in the playoffs. Not after starting the season 1-3 and losing a key running back to injury for most of the season.

It did Oak Ridge no favors that standout junior running back Frankie Arthur was unavailable for most of the game due to injury. “Frankie has been the guy that’s toted the mail with Larry out,” Oak Ridge coach Mark Schmid said. “Carrying the ball like he has the last three or four weeks has taken a toll on him. But he’s a warrior. He doesn’t complain and gives it all he’s got. It was just wear and tear.”

“These kids have done a great job and come a long way. They started playing together as a complete team. It’s sad to end it but I think these kids can be proud of what they’ve done.”Oak Ridge struck first on Arthur’s 11-yard scoring run. Dekaney quickly answered on a bruising Joseph 43-yard run. From there, the War Eagles’ offense was stymied: punt, punt, interception and a missed field goal to close out the first half.
