Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) blamed her state's governor, Ron DeSantis (R), for the way the debt ceiling vote played out in Congress.
MSNBC's Politics Nation host Al Sharpton asked Wasserman-Schultz what, if any, influence the Republican candidates for the party's presidential nomination had on the debt ceiling negotiations. Congress ultimately voted to raise the debt limit and kept non-defense spending at 2023 levels. As Wasserman-Schultz answered, she implied that DeSantis and Haley were at the negotiating table, despite not being in Congress.
The Florida representative was previously the Democratic National Committee chair. She has served several different Florida districts in Congress since she was initially elected in 2004. Florida recently came under fire when the NAACP launched a travel advisory against the state. Wasserman-Schultz expressed her disdain for DeSantis's response to the NAACP, which she called"racist." The governor had said that black kids in states without a travel advisory from the organization"have a better chance of getting shot than getting a first-class education" like they would in Florida.
